The Heart of El Capitan

We went to Yosemite last April. There was still snow on the ground in some places (and on us some days).

Do you see the heart in the rock?

This valley is amazingly beautiful and majestic. The bare rock faces jut up on either side of green meadows and grasslands. Using black and white lends itself to the harsh and barren feel of the granite.

The original – I ran an HDR preset in Lightroom and then turned the saturation down to zero. I also used the lens correction tool to try to straighten that tree, but it didn’t straighten. So, I’m guessing the tree bends like that in real life.

Amish Wash Day – ProjectEdit365 – 02 Apr

The original had a telephone line or power line going through it! This is actually a “replica” Amish Farm that allows the “English” to tour it to see how they live. Hence, the electricity. I was thinking about doing black and white, but I like how the details of the clothes, and their plainness, is shown in the subtle color.

Jungle Cabin

Not a typical Costa Rican house – This jungle cabin was actually the “spice shoppe” where we got to purchase locally grown vanilla and cinnamon after our spice farm tour. Not many insects, even for that pond.

The Original. I cropped it in and used an HDR Lightroom preset to sharpen the whole scene.

Olmec Chocolate

Chocolate has been around for a long time. The ancient Mesoamericans would drink it mixed with corn, vanilla, chili, and/or other flavors. We got a little taste of what it may have tasted like. Not bad.

But the Spanish explorers thought they were drinking poop water. Something about the word for chocolate sounding like “caca”, which you know what that means in Spanish.

Secret Garden

The paths in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve are pretty magical.

Secret Garden – ProjectEdit365 – 29 Mar

The original: I used a Lightroom preset and then worked on highlighting the pathway more. I also upped the contrast and clarity.
