Back against the wall

I found another great wall in the downtown Fayetteville area. My girls have always been willing subjects, and you can tell my youngest was striking a pose.

On another note, I have ten more days of the year-long challenge! I started on 01 Feb 2016 editing a picture a day. In some ways it has flown by. At the end of each month it starts to drag because I feel like I’m running out of material to edit. You can read about the challenge here: Project Edit 365: About.

Reflection

When we lived in North Carolina, I went out with a photographer friend to shoot around our town. Being in the middle of the week, my kids came along. It was a chilly and overcast day and we were walking around a more industrial part of town. Leave it to kids to find something to play with no matter where they are, and that’s a good thing!

After playing around with the photo for a bit, I decided to try something I’d seen recently somewhere. . . Jump over to Project Edit 365 to see how I edited the original photo. Thanks!

Potting Shed

One fall weekend, we attended a wedding on a beautiful piece of property in North Carolina. This potting shed was part of that.

Potting Shed – ProjectEdit365 – 12 Nov

I wish I hadn’t have gotten that modern building in the background of the pic, but this challenge is about working with what I’ve got. I did a lot to this picture just playing around to get a look that I liked. I warmed the temp and moved the tint slider towards magenta. I increased the contrast and clarity and adjusted the tone curve slider to make it more matte. I used an adjustment brush on the “potting shed” letters to sharpen them, and I added a small vignette. Here’s the original:

In His Hands

These great frog sculptures were installed in the Fayetteville Botanical Gardens for some time in 2014. I love the detail.

In His Hands – ProjectEdit365 – 09 Nov

The original wasn’t greatly composed – I’m missing some of the top of the orb. But it was pretty simple to make it look a little better. I sharpened it, decreased the contrast and increased the clarity. I used an adjustment brush to add some contrast back to the fingers and the reflection of his fingers. I finished with a small vignette. Here’s the original:

Trick or Treat

Another month is in the books! I can’t believe that I’ve been editing and posting a picture every day for nine months (I started in February). If you don’t yet know about my Project Edit 365, or if you’re wondering why I’m posting one picture every day, then go learn about Project Edit 365!

The girls enjoy drawing on the pumpkins more than carving them.

Trick or Treat – ProjectEdit365 – 31 Oct

I had been practicing with my flash when I took this picture, and I’m not pleased with what it did. So I made it black and white. I cropped in to put more focus on the girls. I increased the contrast and clarity and messed with the tone curve to make the picture matte. I decreased the highlights and whites and darkened the blacks just a bit. I added a small vignette. Oh, and I cropped out the outlet on the wall. Here’s the original:

Hockey action

We love watching sports live! There’s something about being in the mix with the players, the fans, the action, the food, the thrill. Even minor league games (which are so much cheaper!). Here we’re rooting for the Fayetteville Fire Antz.

Hockey action – ProjectEdit365 – 20 Oct

The original was flat and a little dark. I cropped in to put the focus more on the ice, cutting out a random fan and some upper seating. I increased the contrast and clarity to give it more of an edgy look. I lightened the shadows and blacks since increasing the contrast can darken those. I then reduced the noise. Here’s the original:
