Big imagination

Big Imagination – ProjectEdit365 – 24 Nov

The original was too dark. I increased the exposure only a little. I think what helped is moving the tone curve line up. That also matted things a bit, which I wanted for this pic. I didn’t want the buildings to be too distinctive. I used an adjustment brush on her face to lighten it up and another brush to increase the contrast and clarity on her hair. I also decided to clone out the men, but I didn’t even think about cloning out the buoy in the water. I increased the vibrance and moved the tint slider towards magenta. I sharpened and decreased the noise and added a small vignette. Here’s the original:

Straightening buildings

Another beautiful fall day in Central Park.

Straightening buildings – ProjectEdit365 – 17 Oct

One of the awesome things Lightroom can do is straighten buildings.  My 17-55mm lens can distort tall objects, and with buildings, that’s not a good thing. So, I went down to the “Lens Corrections” and clicked “vertical”. I had to crop after that because it distorts the photo to make the vertical things straight. I added some warm light and adjusted the contrast and clarity. Ugh, I also tried to eliminate some of the sun flare on the building to the right and didn’t do a great job. Here’s the original. You might not even notice how much the buildings are leaning until you look at the edited photo:

Potting Shed

One fall weekend, we attended a wedding on a beautiful piece of property in North Carolina. This potting shed was part of that.

I wish I hadn’t have gotten that modern building in the background of the pic, but this challenge is about working with what I’ve got. I did a lot to this picture just playing around to get a look that I liked. I warmed the temp and moved the tint slider towards magenta. I increased the contrast and clarity and adjusted the tone curve slider to make it more matte. I used an adjustment brush on the “potting shed” letters to sharpen them, and I added a small vignette. Here’s the original:

Fall in Central Park

Even New York City experiences the changing of the leaves. (These benches are one of my favorite parts of Central Park).

Fall in Central Park – ProjectEdit365 – 03 Nov

I brightened up the original just a little and added some warmth to it. I increased the contrast but decreased the clarity just a bit. Lowered the highlights and lightened the shadows. I used an adjustment brush on the sidewalk to increase its texture. I used a graduated filter on the lower fourth of the frame to increase the exposure. Here’s the original:

Trippin’

All I can say is, I couldn’t stare at this too long. I started feeling woozy!

This was taken at a corn maze when my girls were younger.

Trippin’ – ProjectEdit365 – 30 Oct

The original was pretty much just as trippy. I just wanted to make a few adjustments. I cropped to a square for graphic purposes. I dropped the saturation down to zero, increased the clarity by a lot and the contrast by a little. I also decreased the highlights just a little. Here’s the original:

Leaf Peeping

Skyline Drive is a must in the fall if you’re ever near Virginia.

Leaf Peeping – ProjectEdit365 – 27 Oct

The original shot was bright but dull. I decreased the highlights, which warmed it a little, and increased the vibrance. I then adjusted the luminance of the green and yellow colors because they were too bright. I used an adjustment brush on her hair to desaturate just a little, to take some of the orange out that was placed there when I increased the vibrance. I also lightened the shadow in the lower left corner. I finished with a small vignette. Here is the original:
