The Visitor

Tiny visitor

My dad and stepmom used to keep bees. For some reason both of their hives disappeared. I think this was before the hives left.

I think I intended to catch the bee in the photo in the original. I cropped this a little to focus more on her. I sharpened the picture and lowered the noise. Increased the vibrancy and clarity by just a little. I increased the contrast to 100 and then slightly lightened the shadows. I cooled the temp a little bit and then moved the tint a little into the pink. (I didn’t stay true to the original color of the flower, but that’s not what I was going for.) I used an adjustment brush on the green section in the left side of the photo to decrease the noise over there a little bit more. And I used another adjustment brush on the bee to make it stand out more. The original:

The girl in the flowers

There was this field of wildflowers that we would drive by and our daughter fawned over them every time. So one day we stopped. Her day was made. I’m sure she was telling a story she made up.

This photo was not taken in RAW. In fact, it was taken either with a point and shoot or my phone – back before I had my “good” camera. It can still be edited though! I cropped in to lose the brown grass in the background and softened the whole image. I used an adjustment brush, highlighted just her body, and sharpened that a bit–I didn’t want it to be as soft. I adjusted the yellows and greens to satisfaction and lowered the saturation of the reds just a little bit because her shirt is so bright. Using a different adjustment brush, I increased the clarity and contrast of her hair – I’ve found that doing that gives it depth and shine. The original:

Gerbera Daisy

My church has a photography group and the challenge for this past week was depth of field. I love going shallow so it was just a matter of finding a subject. Trader Joe’s flowers work just fine.

The original was dull and I wasn’t in love with the color of the petals. Thankfully, Lightroom has a solution for that – adjusting individual colors.

Flower carpet – Pacific Grove

These are but a small glimpse into the carpet of flowers that blankets Pacific Grove in the springtime.

The original photo was so dull! I did several things, but one of the most important was increasing the intensity of the color of the flowers. Above is what they really look like in person!

Echium in Pacific Grove

The famous flowers of Pacific Grove are the pink ones that carpet the ground during the spring.

Those are nice.

I fell in love with these – purple echium

The original was a bit dull. I enhanced it so you could see the sun shining on the flowers. It makes them almost glow.

National Sibling Day

These girls.

God’s blessings poured  into beings that sometimes look like me, sometimes act like me (for better or worse), and always amaze me with their wit, wisdom, and compassion.

And most of the time they like each other.

National Sibling Day – ProjectEdit365 – 10 Apr

I purposely shot into the sun to create the flare and haze. The original was dull and flat though. I did various edits: sharpened them, softened the background, brought out the saturation, healed a blemish on a cheek.

Happy Day to all you siblings out there!
