Encased in Ice

Living in the DC area, we got the extremes of each season. Summer would be sweltering and winter, well — the years we lived there, DC went through Snowpocolypse, Snowmageddon, and whatever the snowstorm last winter (2015/2016) was called. Needless to say, it was cold!

Even though I wasn’t happy with the weather, there’s beauty to be found pretty much anywhere, anytime. I looked in my backyard and found these buds encased in ice. They were beautiful. And I knew that once spring came, they would flower into even more beauty.

Even though it looks like I did compose with the rule of thirds in mind, I thought that there was too much negative space. Head over to the blog that I created specifically for my Project Edit 365 challenge to see the original and the edits I made. Thanks!

Baking Time

I mentioned that Daddy is so good with spending time with his girls. He’s even good in the kitchen. And there’s always goodies to taste afterwards.

I love lifestyle photography. You don’t have to have a large living space to make lifestyle photography work. This kitchen was a tiny galley kitchen. Fortunately it had this pass-through window. I stood in the dining room and shot through.

This photo blends the best of both worlds: daddy dates and lifestyle photography.

Tea Time

Time with Daddy is always special. Now that they’re older, the girls go on Daddy Dates. When they were younger though, play time was special time with Daddy. And he’s good at playing with them too. I don’t have a great imagination and am just not very good at doing that kind of play for very long. He, on the other hand, always knew how to get down on their level and be a kid with them. I still say that dads are just kids in adult bodies.

We got our tea set in Poland. Polish pottery is expensive in America but was reasonable when bought in Poland. The factories had started making patterns that would appeal to Americans, thus the patriotic looking print.

The yellow was tough to deal with while editing. Hop over to Project Edit 365, the blog I set up to chronicle my year-long challenge, to see how I edited the pic. Thanks!

Docked for the Winter

Back to Annapolis, Maryland. It’s such a cute seaside town. Well, it’s technically on a bay, but the water is there and it’s a major part of life. It gets cold in the winter though, and at that point who wants to be out sailing? As we were driving into town we passed by these boats — chilling until fairer weather prevailed.

I took the photo with my iPhone and as I adjusted the settings on the picture I quickly realized my thumb or finger had made its way into the picture. Click over to Project Edit 365 to see how I got my thumb out of there and what other edits I did. Thanks!

Sledding

Continuing with the snow theme, here’s a picture from later that day (from yesterday’s post). I guess I did leave the house long enough to do a couple of turns on the awesome hill that was in our neighborhood.

I’m fudging a little bit on my rules, I guess. I technically did not take the picture (since I’m finally in one!), but I showed my husband exactly what to do and had the camera all set up for him. And I am the one doing the editing.

I love my daughter’s face in this picture. You can tell she’s apprehensive, but knows that the ride is going to be good. Ha!

The snow is really on the cool side, but I like that with snow. I took all the warmth out of the picture and then added a little bit . . . head on over to Project Edit 365 to see all the edits that I did to the original. Thanks so much!

Blue Eyes Pouting

She wasn’t happy about getting dressed up to go out in the snow. Who knows why. But once we got her out there–building snowmen; on the sled; building a snow fort–she had a great time. Me, on the other hand–I was out just long enough to get some snaps and then I ran back inside to the warmth!

I’m posting this in honor of my friends up in Georgia and Alabama who are prepping for a few flakes tomorrow.

I cropped in quite a bit from the original photo to really focus on her face. Head over to Project Edit 365 to see all the edits I made! Thanks so much!
