Project(s) Update – Week 4

Here are this week’s Project 365 photos: 23-29 January. I’m still really enjoying trying to capture a picture a day.

The Project 52 theme this week was Soothing Repetition. The rules state that you have to submit a picture taken within the specific week. I really wanted to submit this picture:

Check out the repetition in the rocking chairs and the railing in the background. And what is more soothing than rocking chairs? Unfortunately I took this picture back in October. Not quite playing by the rules so I submitted the next best thing: soothing repetition taken this week:

I guess if you can’t have rocking chairs on a Southern porch a pan of brownies smothered with marshmallow fluff and drizzled with chocolate will have to do.

Week 5’s Theme is “Muse…” What is my muse for photography…

Diffusing flash with an index card

I am completely NOT qualified to be dispensing photography advice or help, but a couple people have asked about my homemade solution from diffusing the light from my camera flash, so I thought I’d share. This idea wasn’t completely mine. I thought about doing something like this but, of course, went to Google to see if there was an actual way to properly diffuse camera flash. This was one of the suggestions.

I bent it in two different places so the flash would actually be aimed up/back.

One piece of tape is all it has taken to secure it. You saw the results yesterday. Obviously this isn’t the prettiest fix. I doubt I would take this public.

Anyone else have homemade ideas?

The Tea Party

Tonight’s post isn’t political (although I could write a book with what was on tv tonight). The girls wanted to have a tea party when Daddy got home from work today. So we prepared and were ready. Daddy was ready when he got home too. He raced upstairs and changed into some nice clothes and a tie. He even brought us flowers.

Tonight I used the flash on my camera. I haven’t used it before because I hate the way it makes pictures look. I used an index card and folded it so that it would point light up to the ceiling. I taped it onto the camera. It worked well tonight!

Lucky’s not so lucky

We thought we were going to get lucky today…

We met some friends after church for what was supposed to be a quick lunch. Our friends had to get one of their daughters to a Girl Scout meeting and we needed to get home so I could go take more money from JoAnn’s.* They recommended Lucky’s because they had eaten there one Sunday recently and there was nobody in there and they got served like superquick and the food was good.

Sure! We’d try our luck.

After trying to prank our friends in the parking lot by honking annoyingly at them, only for it to turn out not to be them (oops, it was another lady from church), we get inside and get our table. The waiter took our drink orders pretty quickly and we placed our food orders without fail. All we had left to do was wait.

And wait.

And wait.

I didn’t realize how long it was taking because we were so into our conversations and we were noshing on the delicious rolls that make you full before you even get your meal which is why I’ve begun only ordering an appetizer or a dessert because I know I’m going to get full on the delicious bread. Anyway. Finally at an hour after placing our orders, after the rolls were long gone, we realized that our friends’ Girl Scout meeting was beginning without them and we had nothing to show except crumbs and empty drink glasses. The waiter came over with the manager in tow to explain to us that somehow our order got lost and the cook was just now beginning on it. But not to worry, he had some quesadillas on order for us so we could eat while we waited.

Um. No. We had already waited enough, thank you.

Quite frankly, I wasn’t that disappointed. Sure we sat there an hour but we had good conversation and free bread and Coke. And the manager gave us $10 gift cards to come back. We will. Probably with our friends. But we’ll make sure we have nothing to get to right afterwards.

*I did get lucky at JoAnn’s though. The other day using coupons and my teacher discount I spent $77 and saved $74. Today I went back and spent $30 something and saved just as much. I love “taking money” from companies!

Project(s) Update – Week 3

I’m on a roll. I managed to take a picture everyday again this week. Will I be able to keep this up for 49 more weeks? So far I’m enjoying the challenge and it’s not a burden. Here’s what I took this week for Project 365 and Project 52 (16 Jan-22 Jan).

The picture in the middle is also my Project 52 picture for this week’s theme: Shades of Grey. I’ve got to find a template that will allow me to show the pictures a little larger so you can actually see them. I just don’t want the post to take forever for you to download. For now, click on the collage and you’ll be able to see it bigger.

Creative juices are flowing

I pulled out the sewing machine yesterday. It’s been almost a year since I’ve done anything creative with it. I’m so sick of winter that I’ve got to be creative and make some cute things for Spring/Summer. The only problem is there is nowhere to keep the sewing machine out without things looking cluttered. Hope to remedy that soon. Here’s my first project of 2011:

I got the idea and pattern from Prudent Baby. It hangs a little weird on Ash, but when she’s wearing it I doubt she’ll stand still very much, so no one will be able to tell…

Cutie bug!

Next up is a padded insert for my purses to be able to carry my camera and lenses. I’m almost done with it and it’s bigger than I expected. I may need to make a smaller one to fit my smaller bags.
