Standing watch

I spied these two at a house right at a beach on Oahu. There’s so much to look at, including a pair of work gloves on the shoulders of the man on the right.

Standing watch – ProjectEdit365 – 31 July

From the original, I cropped in to focus on the statues. I cooled the temperature just a bit and slid the tint slider towards the magenta. I decreased the exposure, contrast, and highlights and increased the clarity. I used an adjustment brush on the statues to sharpen them a bit and make their texture more distinct. Here is the original:

Fresh Fruit

Back in Hawaii – near Waikiki there is a small farmers’ market with fresh fruit.

Fresh Fruit – ProjectEdit365 – 28 July

There’s a lot going on in the picture, which is all great (everybody is doing their own thing), but I wanted to focus on the man chopping the coconut. So I found a preset to use and then adjusted it slightly. I cropped in to take out the gloved hand and sharpened the whole picture. The preset lowered the saturation a little too much so I increased it just a tad. I then added a radial filter to focus on the man. I lowered the exposure on everything outside of the radial filter. Waikiki Moonrise

Aloha, Waikiki!

The moon rises over Waikiki and Oahu Not So SAHM

Waikiki Moonrise – ProjectEdit365 – 23 July

There wasn’t much to do – just intensify the colors and provide a little more contrast. I increased the contrast and clarity, vibrance and saturation. I had to decrease the noise quite a bit because I think I took this with my phone. I did a mixture of adjusting the highlights, shadows, blacks, and whites. I also added a slight vignette. Here’s the original:

Pearl Harbor

When you’re at the memorial and look down in the water, you can still see oil seeping up from the USS Arizona.

Pearl Harbor – ProjectEdit365 – 18 July

The edit for this picture was mostly stylistic. I cropped to remove some of the foreground plants and to use the rule of thirds to place the memorial in the picture. I sharpened and reduced the noise. I lowered the contrast and increased the clarity, increased the highlights and whites, and decreased the shadows. I also increased the vibrancy. I increased the saturation and luminance of the blue color to brighten the photo without increasing the exposure of the whole thing. In the end I added a small vignette. The original:

Let’s go surfin’ now. . .

Everybody’s learning how. . .

Let’s go surfin’ now – ProjectEdit365 – 17 July

I wanted a touch of a vintage look. I picked a preset that I liked and tried to mimic it, instead of using it. I cropped in a little and healed out the falling, yellow leaf in front of one of the boards. I warmed the temp and slid the tint slider towards magenta. I decreased the contrast and increased the clarity. Lowered the highlights and brightened the shadows. I decreased the vibrancy and saturation. I sharpened the picture and reduced the noise by a touch, BUT then I added some grain. . . not a pro, here. I also added some vignetting. Here’s the original:

Aloha!

a salutation

a farewell wish

but really – love, affection, peace

America needs some aloha right now.

Aloha! – ProjectEdit365 – 13 July

I was so excited to try some beach writing out when we went to Hawaii. The original shot didn’t quite cut it though. The horizon wasn’t straight so I straightened that. I cloned and healed out the footprints and the little head bobbing in the water in the distance. I increased the contrast and decreased the clarity. I upped the highlights and vibrance. Lastly I added a small vignette. The only thing that could make it better would be a palm tree! Aloha, my friends!
