Beach Reflection – ProjectEdit365 – 04 Nov

The original was too blue for a fall sunset picture. I warmed it up a bit. I also lowered the clarity but used an adjustment brush on the reflection and the waves to increase their sharpness and clarity. I ended with a small vignette. Here’s the original:

Ice Plant Path

Ice plant is not native to the Monterey Bay area, yet it grows like a weed there. I know it’s a nuisance to naturalists or plant nativists, but I think it’s pretty.

Ice plant grows almost everywhere in the greater Monterey Bay area. Not So SAHM

Ice Plant Path – ProjectEdit365 – 26 Sep

I did so much to this picture because the original was so dark. I didn’t want to introduce too much warmth with yellow light because I’ve been doing or seeing so much of that recently. So I adjust various controls, including the individual red and orange controls; and used a graduated filter on the sky to give it an overall cool tone but warm with the plants. From the shadow, it looks like I was shooting at midday so the sun is not flattering at all. Here’s the original:

Surf’s Up

Dreaming of the pros. Catching any waves we can.

Surf’s Up – ProjectEdit365 – 29 Aug

The original was just a little lopsided and dim so I cropped to straighten. I lightened the pic just a bit but it didn’t do too much with the sticks. So I used an adjustment brush to lighten those and the back of the boy’s head. I also used an adjustment brush on the whites of the water to bring out the contrast. I didn’t mess that much with the color of the water and sky because I wanted the focus to remain on the boy. I increased the vibrance a little. The original:

Waikiki Moonrise

Aloha, Waikiki!

The moon rises over Waikiki and Oahu Not So SAHM

Waikiki Moonrise – ProjectEdit365 – 23 July

There wasn’t much to do – just intensify the colors and provide a little more contrast. I increased the contrast and clarity, vibrance and saturation. I had to decrease the noise quite a bit because I think I took this with my phone. I did a mixture of adjusting the highlights, shadows, blacks, and whites. I also added a slight vignette. Here’s the original:

Aqua Greetings

I got a Nikon CoolPix waterproof camera for our trip to Hawaii because I knew there would be quite a bit of time spent doing this:

Aqua greetings – ProjectEdit365 – 15 July

For some reason the file is very small, but I wanted to edit it anyway. The original photo was pretty green. I lowered the contrast and increased the clarity and vibrancy. I sharpened the photo and took out enough noise to reduce a lot of the graininess. If you go too high with the noise reduction though you lose clarity.  I used an adjustment brush around her eyes to sharpen those. The rest of the edit was working with the temperature and the individual color sliders (aqua and green, mostly) to get the color of the water where I wanted it (and to make her skin still look natural). You can still take a low res photo and make it look better!

Aloha!

Aloha! – ProjectEdit365 – 13 July

I was so excited to try some beach writing out when we went to Hawaii. The original shot didn’t quite cut it though. The horizon wasn’t straight so I straightened that. I cloned and healed out the footprints and the little head bobbing in the water in the distance. I increased the contrast and decreased the clarity. I upped the highlights and vibrance. Lastly I added a small vignette. The only thing that could make it better would be a palm tree! Aloha, my friends!
