Beach Reflection – ProjectEdit365 – 04 Nov

The original was too blue for a fall sunset picture. I warmed it up a bit. I also lowered the clarity but used an adjustment brush on the reflection and the waves to increase their sharpness and clarity. I ended with a small vignette. Here’s the original:

Beach Squirrel?

Along 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach there are these cute little squirrel type animals that are so curious. I have a feeling they’re not afraid of humans due to all the tourists who feed them. We neither fed them nor pet them, but we did get very close!

Beach Squirrel? – ProjectEdit365 – 10 Sep

The original was a little flat. I increased the contrast and clarity, and lightened the shadows and blacks. I warmed the temp just a little and lowered the highlights to give more detail to the clouds. I used some adjustment brushes to lighten the girls’ faces (the increase in contrast and clarity darkened the features too much), to sharpen some of the rocks, and to make the trees in the background stand out a little more. Here’s the original:

Surf’s Up

Dreaming of the pros. Catching any waves we can.

Surf’s Up – ProjectEdit365 – 29 Aug

The original was just a little lopsided and dim so I cropped to straighten. I lightened the pic just a bit but it didn’t do too much with the sticks. So I used an adjustment brush to lighten those and the back of the boy’s head. I also used an adjustment brush on the whites of the water to bring out the contrast. I didn’t mess that much with the color of the water and sky because I wanted the focus to remain on the boy. I increased the vibrance a little. The original:

The Birds

The Birds – ProjectEdit365 – 22 Aug

I love how the clouds help make the birds look a little 3D. I also love how deep the sky is. My horizon was off just a touch so I cropped to straighten that. I increased the contrast and clarity to give it more of an HDR look. I didn’t like how sharp it made the water look so I used two separate adjustment brushes on the water to drop down the clarity and contrast on it. I also made the water temp a little bluer and it ended up mirroring the color of the sky a little better. I sharpened the whole picture and decreased the noise just a bit. The original:

A Bright Day

It *was* a bright day at the beach.

Then this woman came out and set up her umbrella and it got even brighter.

I want one.

A Bright Day – ProjectEdit365 – 02 Aug

This was an edit full of cloning out things: people, trash cans, a water tower, random stuff on the sand. I cloned no less than seven things out. I cropped in to focus more on the ladies relaxing and used a radial brush to make them a little brighter. I also used an adjustment brush on the umbrella to increase its saturation. The original with all the items needing to be cloned:

Sea oats

Back on the continent, the beaches can be just as beautiful.

Sea oats – ProjectEdit365 – 26 July

Big changes to this picture! I cropped in to focus more on the grass and fence. I also cloned out the white building. I decreased the contrast and clarity on this picture. I lowered the highlights but lightened the shadows a bit. I increased the vibrancy and saturation just a little. Here is the original:
