Cannery Row

In March, I’m stuck editing pictures of Monterey. It seems that I didn’t take many pictures in the Marches of previous years before 2015. I say “stuck” like it’s a bad thing. There’s a lot of subject matter around Monterey. I hope you, the viewer, don’t feel stuck.

Cannery Row is one of the famous tourist destinations. The world-famous aquarium is at the end of the street.

The original was pretty shaded and, actually bright as well. A mix of really dark and really light. I evened that out and used an HDR-style preset on Lightroom.

China Dragon

The Chinese heritage is big in Monterey.

I loved seeing this Chinese junk boat in the harbor. Now called China Dragon, it was christened the Sea Fox (do the Chinese christen their boats?) I wish I had gotten a better shot of how different it is from all the other boats. But you can see the difference with the white boat. A stand out!

I didn’t know the name of the boat or anything about it, but I knew there had to be something on the internet about it, since it’s the only junk boat in the harbor. And my search was fruitful. Click for more info:“Historical Chinese junk boat museum”

Sea wall

Monterey used to be a canning town. Evidence of the fishermen, canners, and shop keepers is all around.

Think John Steinbeck.

He lived down the road.

The original looks so dull in comparison!

Adding light

Disney does Asia. I’ll have to settle for this until I can actually get to the continent.

The light was very dim in my picture, and the people were wearing distracting reds and pinks.

I think that with the shadows brought up in the picture below there’s more movement through the picture.

El pórtico (Carmel Mission)

“Mission San Carlos Borroméo del río Carmelo” is one of the 21 Spanish Missions in California. It’s is a beautiful place to explore if you’re visiting Monterey and Carmel. I edited out my dad (sorry Dad) and gave it a grainy look.
