Sea oats

Back on the continent, the beaches can be just as beautiful.

Big changes to this picture! I cropped in to focus more on the grass and fence. I also cloned out the white building. I decreased the contrast and clarity on this picture. I lowered the highlights but lightened the shadows a bit. I increased the vibrancy and saturation just a little. Here is the original:

What I worked on with this picture was cloning man-made objects out. And rain spots on the lens. If you look at the original, you’ll see a parking lot with someone in a red top, a building on the left, a bare patch on the right (without much green), and a couple of rain spots on my lens. I used the clone tool to get rid of those. The original:

Reading the Palm

This palm tells me there may be holes in my future that I need to fill (with travel).

Reading the Palm – ProjectEdit365 – 24 July

I loved these palm leaves. I’m so glad I ended up getting a fairly close up of one. I’m pretty sure I knew I wanted to go black and white when I snapped the shot. I tried cropping to have the midrib extend from the bottom right corner, but it took too much off of the leaf, so I left it as is. It still shows movement across the photo. I changed the photo to black and white and then increased the contrast and clarity. I adjusted the highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks to get a look I liked, then I moved on to the individual colors. I adjusted those to achieve a look I liked. Finally I sharpened the whole picture and reduced the noise just a bit. Here’s the original:

There wasn’t much to do – just intensify the colors and provide a little more contrast. I increased the contrast and clarity, vibrance and saturation. I had to decrease the noise quite a bit because I think I took this with my phone. I did a mixture of adjusting the highlights, shadows, blacks, and whites. I also added a slight vignette. Painted Eucalyptus – an ant’s-eye view

They’re so fascinating. As the bark peels off, the different layers are different colors.

This is a tree I could hug.

Painted Eucalyptus, Up Close – ProjectEdit365 – 22 July

The original was kind of flat and dull. I increased the vibrance and saturation and used several different adjustment filters – two for the tree and one for the background. I took away the sharpness of the background to make the trunk the focus of the picture. I also darkened it just a bit. I sharpened the tree and reduced the noise and tried to soften the harshness of the overexposed parts.

Painted Eucalyptus

The painted eucalyptus trees grow on the side of the road in Maui. Take the Road to Hana and you’ll pass by this grove.

I wanted to crop in to get the scale of the girls and the trees. Changing the orientation from landscape to portrait helps, I think. I also worked with the settings and a preset to get a little fairy tale/dreamy look. Here’s the original:
