What’s the Story Morning Glory?

Ok, I’m here again with another pic wanting another round of stories. Care to play along? The commenters last week had me in stitches. You girls can sho ‘nuf make up some good stuff.

Here’s how to play. Look at the photo below. Tell me the story behind it. Be creative.

I’m going to leave you on your own today because I will be driving a l.o.n.g. distance. So, please play nice and have fun!

I’m a Contributor!!!

Woohoo!

I submitted an article to the online publication, Root & Sprout, and they’ve included it! Thank you Lis! Now it looks like I’m smart or something. I will have to increase the caliber of the submissions to my own blog…

Here is the article: Take a Vacation Without Breaking the Bank

I’ll sign autographs if you send them to me. To my new address please.

I’d Like To Thank The Academy

…or Jaci (at Ravings of a Mad Housewife) as she’s known in my circle.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I WON!!!

I’ve never won an award before! Well, there was that time I got first place in the crab walk. But that was during, like, the fifth grade field day. So, ahem, I’d like to thank

  • my mom for giving me life;
  • my hubby: you complete me;
  • once again, Jaci: without you I’d still be a little ole nobody who’s never won anything;
  • my manager: oh, don’t have one of those;
  • my agent: um…
  • GOD! Everyone thanks Him, right? Without God I wouldn’t be.

I’ve seen this award on other blogs and have wondered if I would ever be good enough special enough to receive any award. So I traveled over to Arte y Pico, the originator of the award. Thanks to Babelfish I now know that “this blog awards art and creativity”. Wow. I’m…speechless… Well, not really, but I’m really honored!

Here’s the hard part. I have to pick out five blogs to pass the award to. Have I told you how many blogs I subscribe to? I know I have. I do have a couple of things to do today. Bills. Pack a UHaul. Clean the house. Attend an award ceremony (not for me). Each will take a couple hours each. But first things first, right! Now I see that with honor comes responsibility…here are the rules:

  1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogging community, no matter what language.
  2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog to be visited by everyone.
  3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.
  4. The award winner and one who has given the prize have to show the link “Arte y Pico” blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.
  5. Show these rules.

Wow. So if I pick you, you have some responsibilities as well. This is either a really important award, or we’re really being told what to do (ala Animal Farm). Those of you who know/read me love me for my wit and dry humor so don’t be offended by that last remark.

Here’s my list in alphabetical order:

1. Finding Atman. Heather is my Dooce. If only she were to blog everyday…which I’m working on. Everything she writes is interesting and funny. And this week she is blogging everyday, AND she’s blogging about shopping! She is my “shopping twin” as she just called me in an email. Can I consider that another award? She is one of only two people who have the same shopping stamina that I do (Hey Mom! You’re the other!). New York – three days – average of about 10 hours per day on our feet shopping – heaven. And Heather, I give you full permission to forgo the rules above since you’re blogging about shopping this week and are sure to have Baby E early 🙂

2. Lulaville. Please. If you haven’t seen or read Leigh Anne’s blog go. Her writing is creative, her design is creative, her material is rather interesting (especially if you’re into the nether region), and she contributes to the blogging community (personally I think she’s addicted to commenting, giving and receiving).

3. Snapshots of My Life. Tori’s blog is beautiful because her photography is beautiful. Oh wow! And her background has changed. I love it! Check out her other blogs, linked at the top of Snapshots. Order some of her prints. Thank me later.

4. The Secret Is In The Sauce. Talk about contributing to the blogging community. Heather and Tiffany have created the SITS community where we show each other bloggy love e.vuh.ry.day. Join and get in on some comment luv.

5. This D*mn House. Nicole’s blog fulfills the part of me that’s void: being a weekend warrior on all things structural. She’s building a house blogging community about fixing up houses that I will join the second we become home owners again (which may be years). But for now I live vicariously through her many projects.

Thank you Jaci. I will display this award with honor on my mantle above my fireplace, right over there in the left sidebar (’cause I have two sidebars now. Moving up in the world).

In Transition

THE GIRLS

The girls are gone. They’re down in Arkansas so we can get the move done with “a little less help”.

THE CATS

The cats are a little weirded out about the boxes. Can’t wait until they’re in the truck with me and two kids.

THE HOUSE

The house is in total disarray. Actually it’s organized. It just looks like crap. It took over three hours to go through Reagan’s room and “clean it out”.

THE PACKERS

Come tomorrow.

Friday 13: Move Over

(If you haven’t played along with my Interactive Story below then WHY NOT? Get down there.)

We’re moving. And soon. Moving is physically and mentally challenging. As if that’s not bad enough I’ve got a summer cold. I never authorized this and I’ve narrowed it down to two culprits: 1) I helped with the snot nosed brats two year olds last Sunday, and they’re always either sick or have just been sick OR 2) the lady who came up behind me at WalMart last Sunday and just started hacking all over me. Honestly, there’s acres of room in WalMart. Did she have to stand right behind me and cough up a lung? I’m determined to be stable through the transition though. Energy or no energy.

Which brings me to my Friday 13 post. I wanted to be all smart and knowledgeable about moving and offer great tips for everyone. But we don’t move like everyone else. My husband’s company does all the moving for us. I’m only working on packing the things we’re moving ourselves. There is work in that before you start calling me overly dramatic. I have to figure out exactly what we’ll need before they can deliver our goods to our new house. And that takes a mind reader because they don’t even know when they’ll deliver our goods until the last day they’re at our house. And even then it’s a crap shoot. So I’m having to pack not too much but just enough to be survivable (and with two kids whom I do not want to be bored) and manageable…blah, blah, blah. I’m getting sidetracked.

So here’s today’s Friday 13. There aren’t really any explanations to go along with each suggestion. If you really have any questions then just stick them in the comments section. I’ll then be able to put enough brain power into answering your specific question. Right now I must go pack another box.

Friday 13: Things to Remember While Moving

  1. Accept help when offered.
  2. Ask for help if you need it.
  3. Do as much online as possible: address change w/post office and magazines, etc.
  4. Farm out your kids
  5. Plan your meals ahead to use up what you’ve got. Start about a month in advance eating everything.
  6. Pack travel toys for your kids (and see Friday 13: Travel Games)
  7. Realize your kids are moving too. Do things to help make the transition easier. We had a Farewell Party for Reagan. Have the kids exchange addresses with friends.
  8. Be resourceful with finding boxes. Summertime is a great time to find people sifting through boxes in their opened garages with that look on their face of “where am I going to stick all these?” You’re doing each other a favor.
  9. Be methodical and organized.
  10. Plan for your animals.
  11. Prepare in advance. Search online for dance classes, sports, homeschool co-ops, doctors, etc. Early deadlines might come and go without you realizing it.
  12. Let it go. It will all get done somehow. Don’t stress too much.
  13. Pray, constantly.

How about you? Do you have any moving tips that I could use this week?

Story Time – Interactive Style

I’m going to try something and see how it works. We’ll call it:

STORY TIME

I give you a photo and you give me the story. Play along people. It’s no fun when I’m left playing by myself. I’ll give you the lowdown in a day or two. In the meantime, put your thinking caps on and let me know what’s going on here:

That’s me in the blue top. Bending over backwards.

Ooh! If enough people play then maybe next time we’ll make it a step-story. Where the first commenter starts the story. The second commenter adds a piece. The third commenter ads some more… Am I aiming too high?

Have Fun!!
